Site News: Promoting Ghostbusters In 1984

Twenty fours years ago, Bill Murray was a guest on Late Night with David Letterman promoting Ghostbusters which opened on Friday, June 8, 1984.

Thanks to the internets and our archives, we’re able to share* the interview with you. If anyone has Dan’s appearance on The Tonight Show from around the same time, please let us know. Like Bill’s interview it appeared on You Tube.

Site News: Its Coming. The New RGB Subsite

Our clients and employees may have wondered in the last month (prior to this morning’s update) where have the public updates been? No one outside the company has asked me. I don’t feel I’m making excuses, I wanted to get the very late (in my mind) update published.

Hopefully too with having a new way to post news, people globally won’t just be waiting on me.

Around/about a month ago we finally started to overhaul our The Real Ghostbusters sub site. It was/is a way to redesign the site with a sub domain, clean up old files, organize existing content, and once it’s finished begin adding new content.

The Real Ghostbusters sub site is a work in progress. ie: the red place holder boxes. We’re slowly working to get the sub site in order. We’re sure after taking a look, you’ll have questions. They’ll be addressed here and through the sub site in upcoming updates.

Site News: We’re In A Blog

Corporate has decided to try a new (to us) approach in posting news at Ghostbusters International®. We finally joined the 21st Century with a Corporate blog. Which will also allow for others within the company to  post updates. As well as our clients and employees to interact with us in multiple ways. If the blogosphere works for us, this page will replace the main news page we’re use to.

For those unfamiliar with our main news page, we are/will be posting site, Corporate, franchise, event, fan, and product news.

You can still access other parts of our website by clicking on any of the navigational links on the right side of the menu.

We’ll also be manually archiving news updates (as time allows) going back at least 2 years.

ghostbustersinternational.com Is Tops

Ghostbusters™: The Video Game has been updated with news and new content. A new animation involving Slimer, NYC, and the firehouse. A clipboard with the first of multiple interviews. If you get all 21 questions correct, congratulations. You’re more a fan than I. :p Their is also new downloadable content and maybe the best feature, “Top 5 Fan Sites.” While Ghostbusters International® isn’t a fan site (we can understand the misunderstanding) we’re one of Sierra’s Top 5 Fan Sites. Thank you for the acknowledgment. If their is anything else we can do, please let us know. Congratulations to Proton Charging, GB Fans, and the other sites listed.

Site News: It’s The Hot Rods!

During our last news update because of the excitement we basically forgot that one more Ghostbusters Role Playing adventure book was in the archives. Shortly after Ghost Toasties went live, we were informed Hot Rods Of The Gods was in the scanning stages. Around Easter we had the original files. March, being a busy month enough didn’t allow enough time for us to work with them sooner.

At last Ghostbusters International® presents Hot Rods Of The Gods originally from West End Games. We also updated the original Frightfully Cheerful Roleplaying Game page with links to other adventure books that can be found at Ghostbusters Fans.

If their are future updates about the hobby of ghostbusting, they may include an updated rule book and someday Scared Stiffs.

Site News: Media Area

I began working on the media area early last week. This update definitely could have been posted sooner under normal circumstances. If you read this letter or had read it when I wrote it on January 19th, you might understand the delay. Despite this minor set back in posting the update, I’m happy to report that our media area which has gone through extensive changes is back! It was the second major area which needed to be redesigned and given an upgrade.

What’s new? You’ll find press coverage with some new press added. In the future, we’ll be adding more whether its from GBI or our franchises. A new area called News Footage contains footage from a news station, fans, and of course our franchises. In our familiar commercials section, you won’t be seeing at this time ads for our old toy line or other products. Its been redesigned to include TV/Web Exclusive ads that GBI or our franchises have made. Two new sections include wall papers which is in the works and Case Files Turned Into Movies. Outside our business, many might know them as fan films. More discussion about having a franchise’s case files turned into a movie coming in the near future.

What happened to the soundtracks and the famous music video? We’re still deciding if the sound tracks and scores will return. The original sound track was released again last month. The original score for the first time ever was released officially a couple of days ago. As far as the video, naturally its been a success, getting over 2,000 hits. We believe it will have its own page which means we’ll have some work to do. ;)

Media area is back thread.

Site News: Ghostbusters Training Manual (Finished)

It was finished yesterday, by the time we could have put The Official Ghostbusters™ Training Manual: A Guide To Catching Ghosts on-line, it was time for bed. Hopefully all the hard work and no extra pay will er pay off. More about the training manual and our work on it can be found on its pages.

Site News: Ghostbusters Training Manual (Update)

This past Wednesday and Thursday I was able to hook up my 6 1/2-7 year old scanner (which might have been possessed) and after lots of trial and error (and a lot of noises it made) I got the entire book scanned.

Their is still one problem. Its most likely from how old my scanner is and how long it hadn’t been used. Their is something wrong with it and produced some kind of “streaking” in the lesson pictures that are in the book.

Not to worry though. I can get screen caps from Ghostbusters. In the meantime using Photo Shop® I cleaned up the aged booklet and made it like new. Plus adding one of GBI’s logos in it towards the end. What’s the point of giving it out if no one knows how they can register there franchise?

I’ll get the screen caps when I’m able to and put O.G.T.M on the site not long after.

Site News: Ghostbusters Training Manual

It began as a tie-in to Ghostbusters. A little book most likely meant for children. Or for an older fan (circa 1984) a nice piece of Ghostbusters merchandise which would become a collectible. The book we’re talking about, The Official Ghostbusters™ Training Manual: A Guide To Catching Ghosts. Little did Dr. Venkman realize that this book would continue to inspire young people as they grew up wanting to be ghostbusters. Or adults thinking of changing careers without having to go to ITT Technical Institute. Sure today Ghostbusters International® has extensive tech manuals and training manuals on the fine art of ‘busting. What we haven’t had to sell or give out in over two decades is one of the greatest promotional materials for starting a franchise ever. Until now, sorta.

Last week we dug through the archives and found a rare copy of O.G.T.M, complete with a sheet of stickers which is still sealed. What does this mean? For our company, our franchises, field agents, and potential franchises you’ll be able to see this rare piece of movie franchise history/promotional materials on our site. Once we’re able to scan the covers, sheet of stickers, and the rest of O.G.T.M that is. We’re hoping while enjoying this book it may inspire as it has had for years.

Forum News: New Areas

Ghostbusters International® was probably going to set up an Extreme Ghostbusters forum on our message board at some point. With the cat out of the bag (its just an expression) that we’re working to eventually put up episodes from EGB on our site, (see our The Real Ghostbusters forum for small talk about that) we went ahead and set up the Extreme Ghostbusters forum much sooner.

In other forum news, earlier this month we expanded our Franchise Gathering forum. Over the year (and beyond) Ghostbusters International® has grown. It seemed to make sense to have 3 separate forums for the different types of gatherings GBI and our franchises attend and are involved with. Franchise Gatherings is now a category after Headquarters. Under it are three new forums: Events, Conventions, and Screenings.
